What is FSSAI?
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the regulatory body for food safety. Registration/License is mandatory under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 for any food-related business.
FSSAI Registration (Basic)
- Annual turnover up to Rs 12 lakh
- Petty food businesses, hawkers, small dhabas
- Home-based food businesses

- Tiffin services with low turnover
- Validity: 1-5 years (renewable)
- Government fee: Rs 100 per year
FSSAI State License
- Annual turnover Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 crore

FSSAI Central License

- Aadhaar card of proprietor/partners/directors
- Photo of food business owner
- Address proof of business premises
- List of food products to be manufactured/sold
- Form B (declaration of food safety management)
- NOC from local municipality (for some categories)
- Water test report (for manufacturing)
- Layout plan of premises (for license)
- Equipment list (for manufacturing)
Online Application Process
Step 1: Visit FoSCoS Portal
Go to foscos.fssai.gov.in (Food Safety Compliance System).
Step 2: Choose Category
Select Registration/State License/Central License based on turnover.
Step 3: Fill Form A or Form B
Form A for Registration (basic), Form B for License. Provide business and product details.
Step 4: Upload Documents
Upload all required documents in PDF format (max 2MB each).
Step 5: Pay Fees
Pay government fees via debit/credit card or net banking.
Step 6: Inspection (if applicable)
Food inspector may visit premises for State/Central License.
Step 7: Get Certificate
FSSAI Certificate/License with 14-digit number issued within 7-60 days.
